Sculleries vs Pantries

Townsville New Home Design – Sculleries Vs Pantries

Townsville Builder Jazz Homes investigates the modern luxury trend of including sculleries or walk in pantries in Townsville new home designs. We aim to provide you with some points to consider for your new home.

Very common across most new home designs are walk in pantries, butlers’ pantries or sculleries.  So, what is the difference and why are most new home designs featuring these?

For many families, the Kitchen is the heart of the home – it is a common gathering space for families, for entertaining and also for sharing meals and conversation.  So, it’s important that this central and vital space of the home performs efficiently and looks beautiful.

Traditional Vs Modern

Sculleries were traditionally a small room nearby the main galley, where scullery maids cleaned. Typically, Sculleries would have a sink and dish washing area.  A butler’s pantry was a small space utilized for storing serving items and cleaning goods.

Modern residential home building has evolved over the years. New home designs now commonly feature newer, sophisticated and multi-use version of these traditional luxury spaces.

Particularly in North Queensland, Townsville New Home builders focus on open plan living. This allows light and breezes to flow through naturally.  The kitchen being on display, has become a focal point of the home and walk in pantries or sculleries/butler’s pantries are a hidden luxury.

New Home Design Considerations

When designing your home and kitchen, consider the following to ensure you get it just right:

  • The number people that will reside in the home?
  • How much cooking and entertaining do you do?
  • How much bench space does your ‘main’ kitchen have?
  • Do you have a lot of appliances/serving items? How often are they used?

If you have a larger number of occupants and/or entertain regularly, how much storage you have in your kitchen will determine what’s right for you.

A Walk-In Pantry / Scullery / Butlers’ Pantry should include lots of shelving for dry goods store, bench space for regularly used appliances and food preparation and bulky item storage. An average Walk-In Pantry is approx. 2m x 1.4m.

Our Townsville Display Home in Harris Crossing, the Balmoral 292 features a more ‘traditional’ walk in pantry.  Plenty of shelving for goods and bulky items.  It is easily concealed by simply closing the door.

Jazz Homes Townsville New Home Resort Pantry

Townsville Builder Jazz Homes’ Display Home in Stockland’s North Shore estate, features a cleverly appointed Butlers’ Pantry.  Bench space with cupboards and overhead cupboards ensure storage for regularly used appliances and entertaining equipment. The opposite wall of the Butler’s Pantry includes an expansive pantry, with soft close sliding doors to ensure goods are hidden from view.

Townsville New Home - Jazz Homes NebraskaSculleries traditionally feature a sink and dishwasher and can be designed so that they include space for a second refrigerator or Freezer or wine fridge. Bench space is included for appliances and food preparation, as well as shelving for dry good storage.

Bench Tops allow you to store your regularly used appliances and gadgets inside the Butler’s Pantry or Scullery. Your kitchen will be kept clutter-free and looking ‘Display Home’ perfect.

Take a moment to imagine how your kitchen and stores will be used in an everyday fashion. Always allow for electrical points and envisage where you will store your kitchen appliances.
